Slot Tower. A modular, low cost desk award.

The Slot Tower is the culmination of everything I learned as an award design intern at O.C. Tanner. The task was simple: design a fully functional desk award that is visually stunning, modular/interactive, and can ship flat for cost-effective international shipping. Made up of four simple pieces, building the tower is simple and intuitive. Two of the fins include an engraving for a company logo and the name of the recipient.

From ideation to creation.

After hundreds of sketches and several prototypes, the slot tower was finished and produced in both wood and aluminum finishes. Prototypes were used to experiment with object size, tolerances, and human compatibility. In this project I was heavily focused on how the user would choose to interact with the tower. Originally the tower was designed to include instructions but I found that the lack of direction sparked a great amount of curiosity and interest. Interestingly enough, the tower was quite intuitive to piece together.
